Goodwood Wednesday

Paul Jacobs tipped up four races on the second day of racing from Glorious Goodwood

Some success for Paul here, picking a winner in the first, with Baddam coming home at a very healthy 12-1. Sayif placed, and Raven's Pass nothced a second behind Henrythenavigator.

Goodwood, Wednesday

2.15 - The second longest race of the flat year kicks off day two and it is probably the most open event of the week including the Stewards Cup on Saturday.

Som Tala deserves to win one of these major lung bursting races and looks sure to be in the mix up along with another ‘old friend’ BADDAM.

The latter is now trained by Ian Williams and was considered good enough to run in the big Cup races over the past two seasons, but this is more his level nowadays and as long as the ground remains on the fast side I can see him going well at a double figure price with Mr Murtagh on board.

La Vecchia Scuola is in cracking form at the moment and will relish this trip, while the likes of Inchpast and the lightly weighted Lady Dedlock also have each-way claims.

2.50 – Aidan O’Brien obviously has a really good line to the top juveniles around and his Westphalia looks sure to go close here. However, I shall er on the side of value and have an each-way wager on SAYIF.

Chapple-Hyam’s charge was well fancied on both his starts this term and on both occasions has just failed to get up. This step up to seven furlongs looks right up his street and he can get off the mark in this fair renewal.

3.30Henrythenavigator will obviously take a deal of beating, but he has little in hand of RAVEN’S PASS on St James’s Palace form and I think the Gosden horse can turn him over.

The Irish champion has shown unbelievable acceleration to date and this sharp speed track should play to his strengths. But I believe this horse won’t take too much racing and Raven’s Pass, if ridden in a more positive fashion will go very close to closing him down late on.

Of the other runners in this feature event, Tariq is capable of going close if on one of his good days, but wouldn’t want the ground too quick.

4.05 – This looks as tricky a race as previous renewals with many of these renewing rivalry from Ascot.

Trenchtown is better than he has shown so far and will enjoy returning to a faster surface, while Colony has been kept fresh since his success at the Royal meeting and must go close as he stays so well off a furious pace, which with five confirmed front runners in the field it is almost certain to be.

But I have a sneaking suspicion that an each-way punt on NORTH PARADE may pay dividends.

He looked to have a temperament problem at Chester in the Dee Stakes, but is much better than that and put that run behind him next time out.

One with plenty of scope, he could have got in off a good mark here and is preferred to Colony and another each-way player in the form of Manyriverstocross.
