Former chess champion Sander Lylloff from Copenhagen, Denmark, won the biggest poker tournament ever held in Spain when he picked up the PokerStars European Poker Tour title in Barcelona on Saturday 1 September.

Lylloff, 25, who won €1,170,700 for first prize, beat his good friend Mark Teltscher from London in a brief heads-up battle when he hit a set of Jacks against Teltscher's pair of Kings.

Teltscher, 27, won the London EPT in 2005 and was disappointed not to be the first player to win two EPT titles. Teltscher said: "It would have been great to win, but if it had to be anyone else, I'm glad it was Sander."

EPT Barcelona provided an strong start to the 4th season of the EPT with a total of 543 players arriving in the Cataan capital for the five-day event.

Among the world-class players taking their seats were Team PokerStars' Daniel Negreanu, Humberto Brenes, Isabelle Mercier and 2004 world champion Greg Raymer, as well as Phil Gordon, Paul Wasicka and Johnny Chan.
